After a long discussion with my husband we have decided:
Acana Light & Fit. Yes, despite us being aware that raw would be the best, we simply are not ready to take the plunge until we investigate it further and have a reliable, affordable source lined up. We know there are experts on here who have excellent results and honestly do respect them and their expertise, and the success stories speak for themselves, but it's still scary. I do hope I learn enough to make the change in the very near future...but right now, kibble it is. I started switching her tonight, she got a 1/4 cup of it mixed with the Iams.
Salmon Oil capsules and Vitamin E capsules, on their way right now with my sister. At 108 pounds, how much of each should she be getting? Do I break them open and mix the oil with her food or give it whole as a 'treat'?
I am waiting on a call back from a local herbalist. I will post when I talk to him.
Today she yelped a few times when she first got up. Don't know what that was about but wasn't limping or anything like that, I initially thought she caught a nail in the carpet or something. Went out and peed, came in for breakfast and, at first, just looked at her food but then did eat. Went out again a half hour later and her droppings were not firm, not runny but not solid as they were yesterday. Did start her food switch yesterday (only a 1/4 cup difference). Her face has puffed up again but not nearly as bad as yesterday morning. I am going to take her for a walk to get her loosened up and see if that helps. Yesterday shortly afternoon I started noticing the swelling going down so maybe moving around helps? I don't know. She's breathing less 'snuffly' today, normally she sounds like an overweight old man taking a nap, ha ha.
Left message for a naturopathic doctor. And on hold right now for the natural vet (at least the pet store lady says he's a natural medicine vet, his ad doesn't say so).
UPDATE: Today poor Cena was not well. Very puffy face, huge (but not as bad as initially), drooling, didn't want to eat (but eventually did), just laid around snorting. When she did go out to do her business she wandered aimlessly and tried to eat grass. Made vet appointment for bloodwork and urinalysis...but to be honest I didn't know if we'd be bringing her home again. I cried all day long, I have been a mess for days. Dang dog practically danced her way to the truck, was very energetic. Got to vet, she was usual sweet self for the blood drawing. We waited while the tests were run. Infection, plus blood in urine. I don't know exactly what or where the infection is...I didn't get a copy of the tests, I meant to, I always do, but I've been so frazzled that I forgot when I was leaving $214.00 poorer. She's now on 1 + 1/2 tablets of BioClav (375 mg tablets) twice per day for nine days when we'll reassess again. Vet is still waiting to hear from a specialist four hours away to see if they know of any new treatments/ideas for the lupus.
She's sleeping comfortably right now. I hope the antibiotics help her. I feel a bit better that we're trying SOMETHING, although I know it's not a cure.
*******I am still researching homeopathic remedies to pick up when I get to town tomorrow. Any advice in that respect would be welcoomed!!*********
