I'm trying to let my puppy out in my office for periods of time during the day. I've done my best to eliminate anything from my office that I don't want her to chew on. However, she's still chewing on the edge of my carpets. I don't know what to do about this. Maybe keep a squirt bottle and spray her? I need to concentrate to do my job and I can't be constantly distracted by her. I'm always wondering "what's she chewing" and I can't focus. What can I do here? Just leave her in her crate until she's older?
Try keeping her on a leash and giving her something to chew on...
Mine liked to chew on the base of my chair. PITA, but by giving him a toy to chew, then, when he was done, a quick walk and training session, and then nap time in a crate, He does not even think to chew now.
Doug, in addition to Jessica's recommendation you could buy a bottle of Bitter Apple spray and spray it on the edge of the carpets. Has a very unpleasant taste and might deter her from chewing the carpet.
Keep in mind though, she will find something else to chew if you don't provide it for her.
Bully sticks, stuffed kongs, and fillable chew toys like the ones sold here may help to keep her occupied...
I have to second the motion for bully sticks. I have one in my car and one in the den. Kaiser will lay there and chew on that for a LONG time. I'm talking 45 minutes to an hour at a time. Excellent chewing option.
Yes, I have the bully sticks and two large kongs I keep frozen with goodies. I also have some of those threaded-rope pulls. She likes all those things, but just can't resist the edge of the carpet. She'll take her bully stick and lay down right by the spot on the carpet she chews. She'll chew a while on the bully stick and then just reach over (while the bully stick is still in her paws) and chew on the carpet until I correct her.
The bitter apple spray did the trick. I've got a bottle in my office and just spray it on whatever I don't want her chewing on. I've done a good job of getting everything up out of her way that I can, but some stuff just has to stay. She's smart enough that she never even tried to chew on it once sprayed. The smell is enough to keep her off it.
