I am by no way shape or form a vet or even consider myself extremely knowledgeble in the vet field. I looked up that luxating patella, and everything i read says it in mainly in miniture and toy size breeds. It also says that there is usually extreme pain for a short period of time. If your dog doesnt display these characteristics then it may not be that. I know my GS does the same thing and when we got her x-rayed we found out that the bone walls in one of her legs were thin and at times it cause her to stumble cause, accourding to the vet, she knows that if she puts a lot of wieght on it she is afraid it will break. just my 2cents
she said it wasnt a genetic thing and that it was actually a high possibility it was a food thing. When we were first starting out, a trainer told us that the best thing to feed a dog was frozen chicken quarters...period. so that is what we fed her. Come to find out, chicken quarters, obviously, doesnt have all the vitamins needed to help build strong healthy bones. Anyways, no there is nothing that could be done to reverse it but i have to becareful with her PT and watch her weight.
Thanks for the replys. It is mainly on her front feet no pain, no crying, just a quick stumble and back to business. I guess it started a couple of months ago when she was about 3 or 4 months old. I don't see her do it as often now. I was really concerned because she seemed to be growing real fast (now at 69 lbs. at just over 6mos.)and kind of concerned.
Oh I forgot her toenails are keep short and they are not cracked. Also it mainly happens on grass. I will keep on eye on this, and bring to my vets attention if it keeps on.
