My female who even surprised the OFA experts at MSU was so flashy and just dynamite in the Schutzhund ring. She is such a good dog and her parents are good Schutzhund dogs. She was born without a left hip, no socket, deformed ball, etc. It tore me up, I was hoping on a SCH III and breeding, she was spayed the next week and I was a wreck for days.
Heidi, how old was your dog before you realized she didn't have an entire left hip?! Sounds like she was already a young adult and performing in sport? I just recently saw a working border collie who had absolutely no right hip (it was removed due to DJD) - she was incredible and worked just as hard and fast as her younger, completely healthy team mates - but you could definitely see she had a hitch in her gait, her leg didn't articulate the same on that side. Just wondering whether you knew something was up before x-rays revealed the problem. Very sorry either way... breeding plans aside, having to hold back a dog who's heart is full of go, go, go - even when it's for their own good - is horribly hard. Poor thing.
Vanessa:I would certainly re-xray if we got a fair but
unfortunely our prelim came back Moderate. Yes My vet is
experienced he also does PennHip,He has been my vet for
many years. He showed me the xrays and said he did't think she
would pass. He was wright.
Thanks for your reply.

Natalya, Heidi, Betty:
Yes this was a prelim. It came back as Moderate, don't
have the paper with me but remember subluxation, DJD also.
Heidi:I am so sorry about your dog I know that you know how
bad I feel but you must have been horrified!!!!. Your disappointment way outways mine. I hope everything works out
okay, stay strong.
Thanks

Natalya, I can look back now and recognize some things that didn't make sense at the time like going up stairs slowly, sitting a bit crooked, not liking cold ground. She was 4 months past her 2nd birthday. She is going to be 4 yrs next month and we are still having a good time. She is a pistol, my son calls her the warrior princess, if she can't jump to bite high, she will take the crotch shot every time. She is a bit of a diva LOL.
Betty, mine is really no worse than yours, we both hoped for good news and healthy dogs. We just have to make sure our dogs have a full and painless life. Isis is still a worker, just not as hard. I am thankfull for each day she is pain free and we make the most of it, I don't take any of my time with her for granted. I am glad it was just a prelim and I hope things go better in the future.
