I have used the treadmill that way with some of my high energy foster dogs, and that was what I had in mind for him, but he doesnt fit it well enough to run (trot) on it.

I always let my excitable horses play a bit on the lunge before I ask them for any work. As long as they kept moving forward and bucked on the correct lead it was all good smiley for ;)

A dog doesn't need to 'trot' on the treadmill for it to have a beneficial effect. It's more important that it's sustained than fast. He can wear a pack on the treadmill too.

Obviously there is more psychological benefit to him following YOU on a walk, but he NEEDS exercise so you have to work with what you can.

Is it possible to hire a dog-walker to take him out for a long walk daily?
