In this thread, I talked about Lucy ( older rescue) charging my dad. I was the one at fault.
We have been working on my Sweet Lucy June's attitude. She is coming along wonderfully!
She actually had a breakthrough yesterday. She had a moment when she couldn't decide whether to "charge" someone who had offended her somehow, (I know how, but not pertinent to this thread), or to sit back and let me deal with it.
Well, she wavered and I was about ready to rescue her when she heaved a big sigh, looked at me, came to me, rolled onto her back grinning, and begging for a rub. She looked at the person, then at me, and was so proud of herself for doing what I wanted her to do...let me take charge and she can just relax.
This is a BIG breakthrough for us! We had a party!
She is becoming more and more relaxed as I give her more and more structure...structure, structure, structure is important for her to be able to become a dog again and not an unpredictable, cute, little ball of fur and very sharp teeth.
I also watched and listened to the Dog Corrections vs
Pack Structure Corrections Video and took mental notes and worked out some areas in our life that may need corrections or just redirection...need to work on the plan more.
Thanks all for helping with Lucy...and don't forget Hambone. He is doing wonderfully and can actually go out in public...just not near other dogs, but that is okay!

Edit reason: age
That's wonderful news Jo! Way to go Lucy, and to you - for providing her with such a stable and structured environment that she can finally trust in her owner enough to relax and be comfy in her place. HUGE steps you've taken, with both of your dogs, and it's truly inspiring to hear about their successes. Bravo!
