I've been considering an e-collar and I was wondering what were all the differences between the 175NCP, 200NCP and the 280NCP.
From my researches, it seems to me that the main differences are:
175NCP: 400yrd range, no LCD, waterproof receiver only
200NCP: 900yrd range, no LCD, waterproof receiver only
280NCP: 900yrd range and has an LCD, waterproof receiver and emitter
Is that it? Do they have the same battery life and features other than that ?
Finally (sorry if this is a stupid question), I was wondering how you figure at which stim level your device is when you have no LCD?
I looked at the owners manuals available at dogtra.com for all the details and they seem to be pretty consistent other than the details you already mentioned.
I have used the 1900NCP with the LCD, and the older 1500NCP without. The LCD is really nice in terms of getting the exact level every time. The dials also have numbers around them so you can tell generally what your level is from there too.
I've tended to use the collars less for 'real' training, and more for recall-backup when my dog is off leash. Not having the LCD is really no big deal for this purpose.
For real training, or use in low-light conditions I prefer the precision and visibility of the LCD.
