Sorry if I put this in the wrong place, there is not a general Schutzhund page.
I have a few questions about Schutzhund (there is not a Schutzhund club around here, closest is 260 miles away) and I am new to the sport but very interested in it.
1. Do you have to belong to a club in order to complete in trials or can you just be a member of USA and\or DVG?
2. I ask this question for a reason, my GSD has a problem with people touching her, like she will not allow it…..not aggressive, just does not like it, otherwise she is does OK (I can clarify more if you want)
For the BH, does the judge usually touch the dog during the exam, I can’t find too much about the BH, I have the rules, but that is not real clear or I can’t read ?

If you do not belong to a club I would join USA. DVG, most membership is linked to a club. TD has to sign off on things. I've belonged to both and have found USA to be a little more friendly to "club orphans."
How is your girl with people crowding her? That is usually part of the traffic portion of the BH.
I don't know about DVG but in USA you don't have to be a member of the club, just USA. Your scorebook comes from them. I don't remember the actual rule, but I've never seen a judge or anyone really touch, as in petting, a dog in a BH. Maybe a little incidental bump or something when they are in close proximity.
Along with what Betty said about crowding, there is that part where the judge has to confirm the tattoo number in her ear. So the judge's face may come pretty close to your dog along with the clipboard, etc.
Nothing is done in a confrontational way though Scott. They're not trying to fail you. She just has to be safe and attentive to you with strangers around her. How is she with other dogs or people on bikes?
She is fine around people, I can fuss her anywhere; i.e.crowds, downtown, Wal-Mart parking lot etc. We just have to work on, for example, a bike coming up from behind real fast, she does fine if the bike comes up slow, but fast she gets a little jumpy, but better than it used to be.
She has no problems until someone tries to pet her, which I do not allow, but people do NOT listen! She can be bumped by people and that does not bother her. It's the whole, "Hi puppy, your so cute, I want to touch you type of thing that gets her a little nervous.
Her focus on me is what I like to think borderline incredible (she is shy and this is what I have been using to make her more comfortable). People comment often that they have never seen anything like it before, at least not around where I live.
I have more questions about possibly starting a club, should I start a new post?
