I have just received my eight week old working GSD from Germany and have discovered a couple of wood ticks; one in the crate and one on him. (not embedded)
I would appreciate any advice on preventing this problem with non toxic products. I am feeding a raw diet with garlic supplements. However, this is only day 2 in Canada so I am sure that the garlic has not at full strength yet.
No idea about the wood ticks, but I would do a search on the board - Connie probably knows more off the top of her head but I think that garlic may be toxic to dogs in some cases or doses. If you search 'garlic' you should be able to find some threads....

Our holistic vet suggested to us a product called Buck Mountain Herbal Gold Parasite Dust. Try Googling that and see if you can find it online to read about it/order it. I haven't tried it yet, but plan to.
It is a dust made from neem, yarrow, and diatomacious earth flour.

I purchased Holistic Animal Care brand garlic gel caps from Leerburg for a number of years. Suppliment wise, I basically only buy the Super C from them the last couple of years, so I don't know if they still carry it or not. My dogs have been on a garlic pill for years with no ill effects. They get one pill in the am with their morning meal. I would NOT feed the fresh garlic cloves to them though. JMO
