My son will be going away to college in September and just received an information packet with medical forms etc. There is an insert explaining that first year dormitory residents are at a greater risk of contracting bacterial meningitis and that a vaccination is highly recommended. The insert goes on to explain the two types of vaccines and their benefits and downsides. My daughter will be a junior in college and I don't recall this coming up when she entered school but she was already 18 so it may not have made its way to me; my son is still 17.
He has a check up scheduled the 2nd week in June and I will discuss with his Dr. but I am curious if anyone here has any experience or input on this.
I do know for a fact that Freshman year for my daughter was tough, I think she had a year long cold and a couple of run ins with the stomach flu (no pun intended).
