hes a dog. a puppy, yes, but hes 10 months now, and he won't even come close to keeling over just because you don't "feel bad", and he doesn't eat for a day, or 2 days.
the idea is to let him know that he eats when its feeding time, period.
Joyce, first of all, I am not one of the really experienced raw feeders, however, I have fed my dog raw for about 1.5 years and she is almost two years old. Also, she is not a GSD, she is a 10 pound ankle biter.
Since I have fed raw, there have been several times that she kinda just didn't eat for a couple of feedings, then she would always start eating again. I think, in hindsight, part of it was her becoming older (from puppy-hood to adulthood) and her needs changed. It would worry me to death, but then I know that some owners fast their dogs every week, some, even more often.
I also feed twice per day, and would worry because she is so small that if she missed very many meals it would hurt her weight. So, about every week or so I fast her now for at least one meal and sometimes for the day and this seems to keep her on schedule.
Remember, no dog will willingly starve itself to death. That is something only humans do.
Thanks for all your replies. I suspect that it is a combination of things, and I admit to being a worrier.
But I do have the set eating times, and do not free feed and I give about 15 minutes to eat the food. However, I have been doing some hand feeding and perhaps that is spoiling him in some way.
So, I will stop that, and if he doesn't come around within a couple days, I will go see the vet again.
I had this problem for awhile with my older GSD, but she is a very good eater now.
Perhaps it is some kind of phase.??
