He got better after two weeks, but now he is sick wit the same thing again. We finally got our results in and he has what is called nocardia asteroides. I don't know anything about it. It sounds like an aggressive kind of bacteria/fungal culture. It seems like the fungal infection is growing stronger froma ll antiboditcs he had taken. I really hope it goes away peramently.

The vet has given me an antibodic drug known as ditrim that is going to last for about a month. I have to give him twice a day daily so I really hope it is going to destroy nocardia asteroides and keep them a bay.

Lindsey: I'm so sorry to hear that Roo is sick again. I know
you must be worried sick. I hope he gets better soon and you
can put this experience behind you. Get Better Quick Roo!!!!
My thoughts are with you both.

I had never heard of nocardia asteroides either, and frankly, after trying to do a little googling on it, I STILL don't really know how it works. I second Connie's suggestion to really get as much as you can out of your vet - insist that you discuss any and all treatments for and outcomes of this diagnosis, including changing symptoms that you could be on the look out for.
Take care, and best of luck to Roo - hang in there pup!
