Thanks for the advice Randy, Quality is not who bred the dog i actually got him from PSD kennels http://www.psdkennels.com. Quality was who i was looking at to possibly train him. I am in the process of finding more trainers to look at for training but they are the only one ive found in the New Orleans area so far.
Thanks for the links Todd.
Though I admit I get flustrated when I look at sites like that.
That said, I don't think we should get side tracked from your immediate problem.
Jessica's web search skills are much better than mine (heck, everybodies are), I'm sure she'll come up with more but here's a couple of places I've found:
Greater New Orleans Schutzhund Club
David Billiot
5320 AUGUST AVE
MARRERO, LA.70072
504-348-9105
or here: http://countryhillfarm.com/k9/index.htm
I'm sure there's some place close for you Todd, as I've said my search skills are limited but I found those names in about 15 minutes.
Getting together with some experienced dog people will help you and your pup a great deal.
Please keep us to date on how the pup is coming along.
Randy
Not a lot of clubs near you. I am surprised, typically in large cities there are at least a couple!
Randy already gave you the club in New Orleans. It appears to be run by the same guy you were planning to go to for private(?) training. I’d see first about visiting his club, if it is active, and going that route before doing private training. The cost will be less and the training will be more varied.
Here are a few other trainers/clubs. They are not as close but may know of some unlisted or private clubs in your area. Keep in mind that many (including myself) travel long distances to do this. I drive two hours each way twice a week…
Ark-La-Tex Schutzhund Club
Steve Cobb
635 Bertkouns Industrial Loop
Suite 200
Shreveport, LA 71118
318-294-0859
There is a greater distance from your place, but they too might be good.
Chris is a member here and while this is a ring club, he probably knows of other clubs.
Alpha Canine Training Center
Jackson, Mississippi
601-368-9944
This is Randy Hare’s place. He is well known for his training of drug detection dogs. He is expensive, but may also know of other trainers and/or unlisted clubs. He trains with positive methods.
Greene’s Kennel
Bobby Green
5755 Deer Creek Lane
Ethel, LA 70730
225-683-5964
This is a breeder that breeds nice lines. He is registered with SCH USA but I don’t see that he is working his own dogs; maybe he is… He too may know of someone to put you in contact with.
I am not from the area, so I am not familiar with these clubs, and I really don’t know if any are good or bad. I hope that by calling around and being willing to drive a little you may be able to find a club or private individual that works well for you.
Another thing to do is look up the local people who have titled their dogs and give them a call as well. Most are happy to talk about their passions.
