I have an 8 year old golden who is shedding a lot right now - more than usual. Someone recommended CPN coat boost. It's a flaxseed based supplement. Anyone heard of it?
And no she's not on raw diet. Yes, considering it. And not on Salmon oil yet. Getting that this week.
Is this supplement redundant with salmon oil or a compliment to it or something to stay away from?
Connie will (may) jump in with more information, but flaxseed oil is difficult for most dogs to assimilate. Salmon oil or fish oil like anchovy, sardine, and herring are easily assimilated and work well.
What most people forget, dogs DO need GOOD omega 6's. My boy had trouble with the omega 6's...for some reason could not assimilate them or the 3's very well. So, with digestive enzymes, good food (THK) for the Omega 6 (think organic is good and no grains for him but oats), and fish caps from the vet as well as other supplements from the vet for other reasons, his skin and coat are better, less shedding, less flaking, etc.
Truly, if she is having and has had an ongoing problem with shedding AND flaking, a vet consult to eliminate a health problem (thyroid comes to mind) should be considered. That was part of my guy's problem.
Good luck with your girl!
PS do you have a link for this product so we can look at it?

Edit reason: Link
Well, not real sure about the milled flax etc, but the spirulina, chlorella, kelp, and alfalfa, algae and chicory root are GREAT! Can you find a supplement with those ingredients but without the flax? Just curious.
