Two weeks ago we lost our dear Rottweiler from complications caused by lupus. We struggled with the decision of getting a new family member but decided now was the time, during good weather to help with housetraining. Three days ago we brought home a lovely 13 week old English Mastiff puppy. She has been a dream to have around...so far stress free and exactly what we needed to brighten our days.
She has an inverted vulva. I noticed yesterday when she rolled onto her back. There was a small amount of dried matter in the crease. I have been wiping her with unscented baby wipes several times a day since I saw the problem.
I read that applying an ointment to keep the area from getting gunky is a good idea. What kind should I use?
Also read that I should allow her to have one heat before spaying her because that often corrects the problem. Opinions? Our dogs are indoors only, supervised at all time in a securely fenced yard in the country, it is very unlikely that a male dog would come here or get to her even if one did show up, I'm not concerned about her getting pregnant.

I'm sorry about your loss.
About the new pup, this is something that really needs frequent, regular attention. Your actions can keep the vulnerable pup from contracting the UTIs that this condition triggers all the time. (The UTI can then cause inflammation that causes pain on urination and leads to even more bladder problems as the dog tries to hold urine and not burn her vulva, so you will want no UTI to even get a foothold once.)
I have read recommendations to use unscented baby wipes, gently wiping front to back (toward the rectum so as not to pick up fecal matter and transfer it to the vulva and urethra), and to watch for inflammation. If you see inflammation (redness), you will want to nip it in the bud. The vet can help with compress instructions and an ointment. But your goal will be to avoid even that much complication, keeping her very clean and not letting the urine ammonia burn the delicate skin.
It's really good that you saw it so quickly.
I think that this site gives a very good overview of the condition:
