One day, Jazz, one of the older "go to gals" froze during a lesson. She could not be encourged to "walk on" - she simply planted all four hooves and would not move. After a moment, the instructor calmly asked for an "emergency dismount" and the student was carefully removed from the horse. A moment later, the child had a severe seizure.
Jazz received lots of extra apples and carrots. The student recovered.

Thanks Barbara. Aren't all animals amazing? I had the good fortune to work with a mastiff owned by a woman who runs the same type of facility (horses)in my area. I was always worried about such large animals around children, (special needs especially). Seems my concerns are unfounded.
Fantasmo, a husky mix who was raised on a ranch in mexico and who had that severe emotional damage and stunted, er, learning abilities due to extreme rough treatment (aka abuse!) and malnutrition, would go out with me to take care of our barbados sheep. I had a pet ram who, because he was hand raised, had no shyness of humans. I usually held on to his halter or horns the whole time but this time he was not at the gate and when I entered the pen he charged me, fantasmo jumped him but I automaticly corrected him, because I knew he had killed sheep in the past- I realized just afterward that he had seen the ram about to charge and got him by the rump to break the charge. He never got involved with anything after that...Ive been on a walk with my dog when they stepped on a rattlesnake without ever noticing it, I guess it was too cold to do anything about it...haha!
