I know the policy of this forum is to not openly reccomend breeders, but i would just like to say with the wealth of other knowledge available on this forum this is lacking! I've found it extremely hard to find good breeders and with knowledgable people like those on this forum it seems like a wasted opportunity to help newcomers. Most like myself will rely on yahoo searches for GSD breeders and get let down....
with that said, would as many people as possible please send me your personal picks for breeders based on my criteria? I'm a single 24 year old military guy thats looking for a puppy preferably. I want a working class GSD with good genetics (bite, drive, etc) that would be suitable for sch/protection. I want him primarily as a pet and would like to start sch training with him. I know color etc should not matter as long as you get the "dog" you want but i'm pretty much set on it has to be a dark sable, so i'm thinking probably czech bloodlines. I don't have LOADS of money as i am an active duty sailor but save for the right dog... thanks in advance!
I'm happy to PM you some breeder recommendations, but I do want to caution you that owning a dog as a single Sailor, may be difficult.
Where, for example, will the dog live?
I'm assuming you currently live off base, but what if you should PCS to a new assignment, and be forced to live shipboard, or on base?
I am reminded that I had litter I was going to get a pup from, back in early October '06.
The litter was due in December, and I was going to be sending the deposit on November 1st, when I got paid.
Was in the process of buying puppy supplies, brainstorming names...
On October 30th, I was informed that my unit was mobilizing for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Had I gotten that pup, I would have missed it's first year of life.
man, you guys can really be downers =) (joking) well i'm an E-6 but just put it on and no pay yet, sadly... I've heard horror stories of 12/5 scheds from the old days as well as the one week mids and one week days (which i think is completley ridculous unless your in a combat zone!
fortunantly i work in the intel community and while the hour to hour sched has changed i only work 40 hour weeks mon-fri 0730 - 1530 currently. I'm up for shore orders if i reinlist and i will be able to stay here (fort Gordon, Ga)if i don't decide to get out. I bought a forclosed house when i moved here from england, so no apartment neighbors to deal with, nice sized yard, AND I live an hour away from where i grew up so even if i did have to go TDY for a school or something my family is a hop skip and a jump away.... Thanks for the advice; which is greatly appreciated as these are ALL things i've thought of but i think i should be ok (hopefully! i hate the taste of my own foot)
