You'd be surprised. My GSD puppy crunched those soft bones in chicken backs like there's no tomorrow, when we switched her at 9 weeks old. She swallows the necks whole or, depending on their size, chews half of it and then swallows, but with backs, she chews everything very thoroughly and seems to enjoy the process very much, as well.
Just cut/break off the piece that's the right size for her meal, and she'll do just fine. Kitchen shears actually work great for that, or you can simply rip them apart with your hands, they're that soft. That's what I do most of the time.
The dog will have to do a bit more chewing & less gulping with a bigger piece. Both of my male pups used to just gulp chicken necks. Sometimes they would take one chew on the way down. They tried that the first couple of times with backs & I had to go 'fishing' down their throats to pull the whole back out that they tried to gulp. They only tried that a couple of times & then decided to chew it first before swallowing. Gotta love that HIGH FOOD drive. LOL Just keep an eye on the dog the 1st couple of times, just in case they try to gulp. Wings are good too.
