Thanks for the reply, I have been "lurking" on the forum and enjoy reading the wealth of info that is provided. I purchased Ed's 3 disc puppy set a few months ago. Growing up my family raised Quarter Horses and cattle that we trained and showed for 4-H. There were always Blue Heelers under foot. When I got married 9 years ago my hubby had a Dal. Enigma has been gone for almost 6 years, cancer. Now that our youngest is potty trained, age 3, I feel that it is time to add another "dog child" to our family. I really miss having dog bells to announce visitors
We would prefer a medium sized, low shedding, well bred companion to raise and train. 4-H obedience and agility eventually.

Actually strangely there is a Thai Ridgeback at my local animal shelter. He's actually a very nice Thai Ridgeback with a very correct temperament for his breed. Happily for him he hit the no kill shelter, it's the only reason he's still breathing because of it.
True ancient breeds are a little beyond something you just have an eye for. You need to really consider temperament and purpose in one of these guys and decide if it's compatible with your lifestyle.
Angela,
Rescue, yes we have considered it. I know that being purebred isn't a guarantee, but knowing an animal's background/breeding is valuable. I'm looking forward to a 10-15 year commitment and both for the dog's sake and our own I want to make the best choice possible.
