I only would have limited capabilities for certain things since this would be a 2-person show, but I feel like I'd be a bit selfish not to pass this onto local dogs and cats whose owners want to feed TRUE WHOLE PREY. We were thinking chicken, rabbit, pheasant, cow, deer, etc.
I'm not talking about starting some fancy business- but if someone local wants to take a road trip and pick up some really really fresh ground truly whole raw food, this would be a great opportunity.
And your topic title contained, "Looking for feedback....".
Uhmmm...I know I've just started but I am in Lowell IN (Originally from Dolton IL.) and am interested in your venture. I guess my dogs might be a ways off from being ready to add an ostrich to their diet feathers and all but keep me in mind as I think I may be near you. We are considered Chicagoland. I often go to the East Side of Chicago to visit my Grandma.
Well, I guess game could mean wild game, but it doesn't in this case (though it wouldn't matter since he has the permits for that, too).
But it was the roadkill and crossing state lines part that had me confused, b/c neither were mentioned to my memory, but my memory has not been too good lately, so I had to go back and reread.
Anyone nearby who is interested in bringing something to be ground, like a few people PM'd me, let me know and when my neighbor gets back in town, we will talk more about logistics. I think we'll probably just ground stuff for people on a 'favor' basis for now until we decide what animals we want to concentrate on. I have always wanted to raise my own dog food, but never had the place to do it until now.
I WAS looking for feedback; I still am. I wonder who would be interested in something like that; I don't want to get overwhelmed or have anything go to waste if we get too many animals. And I was wondering what people would think about the legalities/liability. I know some butcher shops won't let people take scraps b/c of liability if the dog chokes or gets sick. That's the kind of thing that worries me about dealing w/anyone I didn't know and taking any money for it.
Alyssa's idea might be the best; make it some kind of co-op idea so it's more like sharing than selling. However it works out, I just want it to go to good use.
