Hi, all! I am looking for some advice to make sure I'm on the right track with the raw diet.
My dog is 4 yr old 95 lb male, who I started feeding raw the last week of May. I've been working off of Cindy's basic outline of the raw diet online, gradually adding things in, and I just want to check on anything I may be missing, as this is the first time I've fed raw.
The dog is an easier keeper, and lazy, so I'm trying to keep the proportions right.
Being fed twice a day, his daily intake is about:
10-12 oz chicken (usually backs, some quarters)
6-8 oz hamburger
Glucosamine
Scant 1 tsp Vitamin C
400 units Vitamin E
4 squirts Salmon Oil
He also gets the Kelp/Alfalfa a couple times a week. He gets ground veggies several times a week, yogurt, eggs, baby back ribs, buffalo, mackerel, sardines.
The struggle has been organ meat. He seems to have a bit of a sensitive stomach (the Vit C had to be added VERY slowly), and we've been working on adding organ meat in tiny increments. Question-- what proportion of organ meat should I be shooting for? 10%?
I also have canned tripe sitting here but haven't fed it yet. How much/often? Does tripe replace a protion of muscle meat?
Do I need to be working on adding in anyting else? Anything I'm missing?
Tripe is a source of digested veggies. Is the canned stuff you have bleached or green? If the tripe is white, it's not offering much of any value nutritionally.
The tripe I have is the canned green stuff. So I use it in place of the veggies?
For organ meat, the chicken backs appear to have the kidneys attached, etc. For straight organ meat that I add, I've used beef liver. I do have a beef heart in the freezer, but haven't used it yet.

Kasey gets gas and looser stools if I give him much organ meat at one time, so I put chicken liver, giblets, beef liver, parsley, spinach, zuccini and yellow squash, and a few berries in a blender and make this disgusting glop. I freeze it in little containers, and then just put a couple tablespoons of it on one of his meals every day (I started with less than that and built up to it). He LOVES it and by giving it in small amounts every day I think he gets enough of it without giving him stomach problems.
