I just gave you the whole canned sermon so that you can really decrease the likelihood of him getting hurt again. Sorry to lay it on so thick!
I'm guessing that he will come through this one incident fine, but you really want to guard against it happening again in the near future. Connie is right on to point out that you don't want to act fearful or nervous when you limit his interactions with strange dogs. I wish I had remembered to say that!
Hi Margaret,
I took your advise seriously and will try to be more alert in future and hope no such thing happens again. I am just worried about this one because damage has been done. I feel sorry about my pup and cant get his cries out of my mind. There are lots of stray dogs around and we never had such problem.....its just one sick dog with sick owner. I am putting lots of hard work in my puppy and just like everyone else want him to be a best dog in the world.
I too hope he'll recover soon as he seems to be behaving fine......he's calm and sleeping right in front of me....
will see how he reacts when I take him out again...
Thanks again!
Two cents,
Cattle prods work nicely for knocking dogs back.
Non-lethal. Avoidance training at it's best.
Tasers, anyone know how dogs survive those?
Myself I carry a good stout walking stick made of ash (yeah I'm the talk of the neighborhood). Very handy piece that, against man or beast.
As to traumatic episodes in a pups growing up. There's all kinds of those, so look at it as just another one of those things. Myself I'd avoid that spot for a day or two then slowly make my way back through it, much as you'd do, if say, the dog had an issue with traffic. Work it out a little at a time, not pushing it too much.
If the route you walk is the nicest walk you have other then that one house, I'm with you. I'd be rather disinclined to alter my way.
I vote cattle prod, taser, billy club, bear spray, guns. The neighbors dogs are a menace to the social norm. Use them on the dogs owner.......if you can get away with it. Otherwise the dogs will have to pay the price for your (and the neighborhoods) peace of mind.
I know Tazers are used with great success on deer that are caught in fences. Tazer deer, deer immobilized, people safely extricate deer, deer recovers, gets up and walks away.
