About 2 or 3 months ago my dog (Samson) started exhibiting signs that at the time i considered individual and separate issues. One of his eye lids seemed to not retract as usual and would cover more of the eye than usual. Obvious when compared to the other eye. I proceeded to treat the eye issue assuming it might have been scratched, or something like that. He suddenly got a really bad case of diarrhea and for the first time ever would not eat, he didn't eat for 2 days. I treated the case and he recovered and started eating again A few days later i started noticing that he would not run and jump around as much as usual, but did not exhibit any physical hints of any discomfort. A few days after that he started showing a limp on his right rear leg. I kept it in the back of my mind but didn't panic over it and decided to give it a few days to see what happened. A week or two after his whole rear just became lame. He walked but with most of his effort coming from the front end. Oh i forgot, his paws also turned into rock like material. The moment his rear just collapsed I went to my vet who i had been keeping up to date with regards to the limp, and who had treated the eye, and consulted me on the diarrhea. He was also very concerned about the paws. We proceeded with an x-ray of his hips because Samson has always had an "different" skeletal anatomy when it comes to his rear end. The x-rays came back pretty normal, nothing that would explain the situation. We did a blood test for tick borne diseases and it came back positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. We proceeded with 20 days of antibiotics. The medicine did not seem to have an effect, at least visually. It has been somewhere around the neighborhood of 3 months since this all started and i am still dealing with it. He has improved a lot, his skin looks better, he is eating like always, his weight is good, his eye looks normal, his paws have improved a lot but I am still working on them. His rear is still not there yet 100%, it has improved but very slowly. I'm currently taking a number of steps to get that rear strong and working normally again. oh, we did blood test to see if the disease had affected his organ functions and they showed nothing abnormal. I guess the purpose of this post is get some feedback from those that have gone through similar experiences and if not then i guess i can be an example. I live in North Florida and me and Samson do a lot of outdoor stuff, it was not a surprise to have found out that it was a tick. The last two years have been pretty bad, if you ask me, when it comes to ticks her in my neck of the woods. Thanks!
