I have decided to give liquid vitamin E (with an eye dropper, available at the health food store) with my salmon oil for my 25lb dog because I can't find capsules smaller than 400mg and am worried about giving too much.

I can only say what I would do. I would buy the best form (natural d-alpha with mixed tocopherols) in whatever form I found it, and give 100 to 200 IU a day to the 25-pound dog. If I had to toss the remainder of a capsule, I wouldn't care very much.
(You said mg, but I doubt that your caps are in mg. They are almost always in International Units. )
Ah. Just noticed that you are not in the U.S. I don't know how E comes in Canada: mg or IU.
I made a boo boo. I meant to say I.U. For some reason it's a lot easier to find E in 400iu than in 200iu. I have never seen 100iu capsules here. I'll check around again and see what I can find.

One time, before I found my present source, I used 400 IU caps. They were perfect for one dog but 2X what I needed for another. I actually pierced and squeezed what I guessed was half, stuck the remainder (in the cap) in a tiny sandwich baggie in the fridge, and gave it the next day.
I felt pretty sure that a refrigerated, still-in-the-gel-cap partial dose was fine overnight. I also didn't care if I was off in the squeezing, since the two days averaged out.
I did this because I had the best natural E with mixed tocopherols that I could find and was willing to bother with the pierce-and-squeeze for that.
