I had never heard about the biotin deficiency problem - are you sure this affects dogs? I have chickens and feed my dogs at least 4-5 raw eggs (and shell if they will eat it) each per week. Coats are just gleaming - I get comments about shiny coats all the time (and I don't give salmon oil, however I do feed a no-grain no-cheap dog food) -
I had always thought egg was "the perfect food" balanced in everything. Learn something new every day!

.... I have read that it's pretty a very multi-species malady. For dogs, and especially shepherd-types, dry or flaky skin, thin coat, excessive shedding, intense scratching or biting of skin, poor claw condition, weakened soft tissue which may contribute to HD and other joint disorders.
Pitcairn did not think that biotin deficiency was at all common in dogs, though, so who knows. I don't know .... I just err on the side of caution, I guess.

I did a more complete reading of the research article abstract. It tends to imply that Shepherds may be more susceptable to biotin deficiencies.
It noted that ...

All breeds responded but to a variable extent: e.g. in Poodles the response was lower (no response in 6 out of 11 cases) than in Alsatians, (German Shepherds) , where all improved and 14 out of 29 were completely cured. The results confirm the favourable effect of biotin for treatment of fur and skin conditions in dogs.
