Just wondering if anyone has a particular restraining device from Leerburg (or other) that you recommend using. I have a sedan car and my dog sits in back seat but frankly is not restrained. He behaves well but am concerned in case of an accident. I would prefer not to have to put a car harness on him, seems alot of work. Would prefer some way to attach his leash to something in the car if possible. Thanks for advice anne h

I'm assuming you know not to connect the dog to anything by the collar, as that would be extremely dangerous.
I like the Champion too. A friend of mine uses the harness-car strap system and it's quite sturdy and safe.
As far as vehicle restraints, you have really only two safe options.
1. Harness system
2. Crate
that is all.
You are right to be concerned about accidents - among other things. Other volunteers in my rescue have lost dogs this way (one's dog was actually let out of the vehicle by animal control when she was pulled over for a traffic stop. This was a year ago and that I know of she never saw her dog again )
We actually have a member here that lost her beloved Duke in a very serious car accident.
It is best not to take chances...
In my last car accident my dog was secured by a harness system. I had to be cut out of the car, and so did the dog, BUT he wanted to KILL the fire fighters and anybody that came within five feet of the car. Had he not be secured, he would not have allowed anyone to get to me and would have likely had to be shot in order to get me out.
With him strapped in, a K9 handler brought in a sleeve and allowed the dog to bite away while they cut me out and I was able to get him unlatched and muzzled (I was OK, just some bumps and bruises, I was just stuck.) We both survived a major accident with little damage and no harm to the emergency personnel.
I will forever secure a dog after that.
PS: the harness being used was the Leerburg agitation harness... Talk about quality!
I have a seatbelt harness for my girl from bostonvolvo.com I didn't remember where I got it, so I googled now and should have known it was Swedish... LOL it's very 'safety conscious' like most things are in Sweden. I like that it has 'real' seatbelt material and fastenings, it's easy to deal with but feels safe too.
