17 weeks is what... four months? He should be eating at least 3 times daily if possible.
You're addressing the possible bile-vomiting, right? (Not the apparent obstruction)
Yeah, sorry, yes I was. He said he had seen the vet about the obstruction and was following the vet's advice regarding that.
I definitely meant that an empty stomach could be causing the vomiting. Plus, most puppies do better if fed more often, because they have very high nutrient and energy requirements but small stomachs. However, the OP has discussed this with his vet as well.
Maybe a bedtime snack would help, even if not a full meal?

I second that suggestion.

Great Idea, I will try that when we get back to normal. We were having issues with him eliminating in the crate, but I think that we have over come that issue.

Well at 0400 hours yesterday morning Duke passed part of a corn cob. He's doing much better, he's keeping food and water down. gets tired quickly but he wants to play alot anyway. I keep having to crate him to keep him from exhausting himself. Unfortunately I can't seem to keep my classy neighbors from throwing their food waste and leftovers in my yard. Thank God I got outta this for under $400! I should send a bill to the neighbor. I'm feeding feeding a boiled rice and ground beef diet for the next day or two and then we're gonna work on packing the pounds back on the lil fella.
As I am working him back to his regular diet does anyone have any suggestions as far as something to add to the food to help his bowels recover quickly? And I know technically I should start a new thread for this but it will be a quick question. How much Embark should a 30 lb/18 week old puppy who is projected to be about 85-90 lbs be eating? I have been serving 2.5-3 cups as I said but I want to make sure that this is enough.

Great news...really too bad about the neighbors tho. One more reason not to leave your puppy unsupervised, ever, in your yard, and to work on a strong "leave it" command.
Can't help you with the food questions...tho I'm sure others will be by who can.
Glad your pup is recovering and that this didn't turn into something much more terrible.

I agree. Your puppy, at this age, need to be on a leash and supervised. This way he can never get into things that might be dangerous.
I think of it as leaving a two year old child unattended. They can get into a lot of mischief, or harm themselves, not to mention learning bad habits that can be very difficult and time consuming to break later on.

Josh,
The same thing happened with my puppy when I switched her to the Force food. She immediately had to poop ALL THE TIME probably because of the veggies and other stuff in there she doesn't need. Then she refused to eat her food and got diarrhea. Finally she had blood in her stool so I immediately stopped feeding her the food and switched back to raw. After two days she was back to normal.
I don't know if she had an allergic reaction to it or if there was something wrong with the food. All I know is she is being fed raw from now on.

I just want to say that THK (especially as a base for RMBs) is an excellent food, of the highest quality.
It's dehydrated raw, and while it contains produce, produce is not something that dogs need zero of or something that would trigger blood in the stool.
I'm sorry about your dog and I think that raw is a great choice (and I applaud that!), but I don't want to leave any impression here that THK causes diarrhea or blood in stool.
More stool than just RMBs ... yes. Diarrhea and blood .... no.

Duke is an incredibly resiliant dog. He was almost 100% the next day. We've had a busy week visiting parks, gas stations etc.
Angela, we don't leave him unattended. I am very strict about that, however my wife takes Duke and my 2-year-old daughter, Jordan, out at the same time during the day. As you can imagine, even though Duke is on a leash, she doesn't stay 100% on top of both of them all the time.
I wish that I had the money/freezer room to feed raw but I don't have either of the above at the time. THK is working great for me right now, and Duke loves it. Just a clarification RMB's are like chicken necks, backs etc.?
