I've been browsing though the toys offered here and I like the look of some of them....however I'd like some first hand reviews on durability since my dog...well...I think he's got some shark in him...
He has destroyed...
Dogzilla bone: 10 minutes
Rubber Nylabones in every size
Rubber Balls in large and xlarge sizes (both hollow AND solid)
Kong 1 (the red one recommended for his size): 20 minutes
Kong 2 (red one one size up from his recommended size): 30 minutes
Kong 3 (black super chewer one size up from his recommended size): 45 minutes to one hour (I left to go shopping, my roommate gave me the pieces when I came back...)
Rubber Chain Toy (large): 30 minutes
Everlasting Treat Ball (medium): 30 minutes
Everlasting Treat Ball (large): 1 hour
Everlasting Treat (the longer one, large): 1 hour
The list goes on....I mean, he's not at all destructive to my stuff (thank god) but uh....I'm sort of running out of options (and money!). He's not an aggressive chewer (I've never had to worry about him breaking teeth or anything) but he's figured out how to slice things open like butter, or scalp them, or gut them...he's 7 months old and has adult teeth. He's an Australian Cattle Dog with a bit of shepherd and possibly some lab (with some shark and a bit of hyena lol....) 8 months old, has his adult teeth. It's just that I would like my boy to actually have some toys he can play with in the house (frisbee and surviving tennis balls are only for fetch games outside and are out of reach indoors) apart from fully edible things...
Anyone have a dog like this? I like the way a lot of the offered toys here http://leerburg.com/toy.htm but I see a couple things on that page he's already destroyed in under an hour so I'd like to hear what's worked for your super chewers? for the record, Kong is very good at backing up their products...

He sounds talented. I have a dog that's part beaver. She once chewed down a 20 foot tree in my yard.
Of the toys in my yard I've had good luck with the staying power of holee rollars, everlasting fun balls, and tire biters.
Best of luck with your shark

Melissa, which Tire Biter? I went to look, and I see six different ones. http://leerburg.com/toy.htm
I am always looking for sturdy toys. So far, the Everlasting Fun Balls (and Fire Plug) are very big here, but those Tire Biters look even sturdier.

Maybe inappropriate, but we have an actual tire in the yard for chewing and playing with. We also had one hanging from a tree at the old house and Quinn would go CRAZY with it! It was hung at swing height and he would attack it and swing with it while chewing on it. It is not as much fun lying on the ground, but he still gets a blast out of it.
Also my boys like the big plastic traffic cones; both the cone shape and the tall skinny kind with a solid rubber, heavy base. They all eventually wear out, but the tire and the base of the traffic cone (tall skinny kind) have been around for ages.
If it is to be a toy, and not necessarily a chew toy, one can get very large solid plastic balls. We have an 10" size and while it has a million scrape marks where Quinn can hook one tooth on the opening and dig his other tooth into the plastic to just barely carry it around, it is definitely not damaged. I have put some sand inside for weight, and it is even more fun. They both enjoy "herding" it around and Hav likes to "hike" it between his front legs. Out door toy (it is hard and big and could do damage to the house if the dog really gets going!) but a fun and long lasting one. Here is a link Heavy Duty Dog Balls
Also, I give the dogs antlers to chew up. I get them the natural sheds, or if a friend gets a buck and doesn't want the rack, the dogs get them. They tend to not splinter the way bone does, and if you get a big enough rack, it can last a long time. Also, there are lots of places for the dog to chew on and different thicknesses, so they are entertaining to a certain degree. If you are not able to get them for free, they are often sold on e-bay... But watch the dog (as one would with any chew toy) for possible tooth damage.
Some dogs just don't get that chew toys are for fun, not to kill...

Antlers are pretty hard... I don't think I'd use them.
As far as which size tire biter Connie I have the largest size black one that's a tire.
My lab is also destroying pumpkins right now. I have a few too many from the garden (I ended up growing about 40 this year) and I figured what the heck. If she manages a good jack o lantern design I'll put it on the porch.

Antlers are hard, and some dogs should not be given them for that reason.
While hard on toys, neither of mine are aggressive chewers. Both like to rip things up and destroy them, but not in a way that keeps them from knuckle bones, for example. They chew on these types of chews in a recreational manner.
Know your dogs chewing style and give toys accordingly. All of the toys mentioned in the first post are not given to my dogs for the same reason as the OP, they would be a waste of money.
Toys with a though chewer need to always be supervised...

I do give him knuckle bones and have given him antlers, he's great on bones and isn't crazy with them (no behavior I'd be concerned would lead to tooth damage) it's just he's got these razor molars that slit open anything rubber, fabric, tougher fabric, etc I give him. I'll see if I can find antlers by the rack, our local pet store only has 5-8inch cuts, I've also given him bully sticks which last about a minute once he goes in the initial crush on the end. I like the idea of edible toys but our local stores have mostly smoked bones and rawhide (which I'm not going to give him). They do have various other body parts but they're either gone to quick or I don't know enough about them to safely give them to him (dried tracheas, hooves from pretty much any lifestock animal except horses, pig snouts and ears, cow ears). I'm going looking into those tire toys though he loves things that roll and he likes things he can stick his paws through (he loved the rubber chain ring toy...for the half an hour he had it XD). I'll look into those heavy duty dog balls too, I don't think he'd be able to get his jaws around one of those to slice it into pieces.
He has one "inside" toy that he has not chewed up, it's actually a glow in the dark nylabone, the first thing I gave him when I got him out of his previous home. He doesn't chew that, just licks it, carries it around, and sleeps with it. Any of the other nylabones I gave him? In pieces...even the "super chew" ones designed for a dog three times his size.

For antlers, e-bay. I just got three sets (six total) that are all two points or more and paid $10. Shipping was more than the price, but less than $21 out the door and I got six large and long lasting chews.
Oh, and if he likes to stick his paw through toys, he'll really like the tire biters in the tire shape. Mine just love them!

my next paycheck I'll be looking into antlers...
in the mean time...I'm banging my head against the table...
I bought a tire toy....and also an actual tire (kindly donated by a friend of mine after her dog stopped showing interest in it)
The toy lasted 30 seconds....the tire 5 minutes....
I think we'll stick with edible things XP

My Texas Lacy is a 'recreational' chewer. I find the following will keep him busy a while.
Freeze a block of ice (or water & bouillion mix) in a milk carton or jug. Once it's solid, cut off the plastic or paper carton and throw it out in the backyard. Mine will gnaw at it for hours!! And it melts so no mess to clean up!!
