I think Gunnar and I would enjoy weight pulling. Problem is I have no experience or idea where to start. Anybody have any advice? A good DVD or resource to recommend? A starter harness? I have a 110 lb. Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Thanks.
I am still waiting for Neb's freight harness which I will use a lower weights (a friend/board member is making it for me and she's been busy!) but that's okay as Neb is still under 2 years old. We've been working on commands for this and pulling a sled in the meantime.
Hope it helps.
Edit: How old is your dog? Especially in a bigger breed I'd imagine you want to be careful about weight loads with younger dogs.
He is 13 months. I figured we would get him used to the empty harness for a couple of months. I've read that you don't add any weight until 18 months, correct?

With a Swissy I wouldn't go over a weight just enough to keep the milk jug from bouncing until 2. You want to be 100% sure all joints have closed before putting weight on them or you will pay for it in your dog's later years which for a swiss isn't that old. Until then you can work on getting the harnesses you want and introducing the sights smells and noises.
Proper weightpulling harnesses aren't something you'll find at petsmart. They need to be designed for your dog in mind with specific measurements. A friend of mine gets her pull harnesses from these guys but I am confident other people out there make them as well. http://www.txconfederatekennel.com/pullharnesses.html
