Yes, I'm switching all the pets! I'm not sure how different cats and dogs are digestive wise, so I thought I'd check for some methods here.
She's an 8 year old kitty from the local Humane Society, I've had her since she was a kitten. She is fed Orijen cat kibble, and I'd like to switch her to THK for now, then start adding raw meat later (and eventually using the THK sparingly). I am at work 7:30am-3pm, Monday - Friday. However, next week with the holiday I have Thursday-Sunday off. So I can do small meals during the day then if that's the best bet. But I'm not sure if I should use the same methods as a dog...
She is a machine and devourers chicken thighs with ease and is brave enough (stupid enough?)to try to steal a chicken neck from the dogs.
The hardest part is that cats are so finicky. It tends to be difficult to get them to eat the raw as it doesn't look, smell, or taste like cat food.
They also tend to on;y want to eat fresh food, so if it has a smell to it, all bets can be off even with the best of the raw eaters. They have a high taurine dietary need, so another reason that very fresh is important.
Getting them the bone they need is not always easy either... I feed a lot of fish, Cornish game hen, bone-in breast and chicken necks. Often calcium supplements need to be used...
There are many that do get a grinder or buy pre-made diets...
Here is a great website that goes in to a lot of detail on feline specific nutrition, how to get them to eat, and all the other pertinent kitty stuff! Raw Fed Cats
