I have met and been and one of Ivan's seminars. Not only is he down to earth but he has the ability to determine ones issues with a dog before anyone else has a clue what the problem may be. I recommend Ivan, he's great at what he does. A true dog whisperer.
Ivan's Schutzhund record speaks for itself. If you're into Schutzhund then he's probably a great trainer to work with. If you're wanting to train a real-world protection dog, however, I would NOT use him.
A couple years ago I had just obtained a working GSD pup and I was looking for trainers and individuals I could train with in PPD. I was curious if Ivan might be suitable. I took an older dog already trained in ppd and who had, incidentally, previously won an ASR "beginner" trial just before ASR dissolved. Anyway, I will simply say that I was VERY underwhelmed with Ivan and that I would NOT seek Ivan's services for any future PPD work.
What are your goals for this dog? (family pet, agility, herding, etc)
Have you checked out any of the Michael Ellis streaming videos?
(These are free, and will give you a good idea of Michael's training methods) Streaming Videos
This link lists all of them; just find the Michael Ellis link and open it...

Hello.
Thank you for your answers.
The question about Ivan is not related with the Rough Collie in particular. I just love to learn as much as i can. I've allready ordered the two new Michael DVD's but since it's christmas i think i can give myself another present. That´s why i asked about Ivan's DVDs.
In a near future i will engage in the process of aquiring a sport dog (probably to obedience, but there are also other dog sports i like). However, i'm not in a rush. In the meanwille i'm trying to gather everything i can about animal learning.
I'm also a marine mammal trainer and i've learned a lot with DVDs and books about dog training. As you may imagine there are little stuff out there about marine mammal training.
This is why i've asked about the quality of Ivan's DVDs. If you have any other sugestions please let me know.
Take a look at http://www.trainperview.com Between that and the Michael Ellis videos here you can pick up some of the similarities and also the differences.
