Hi everyone...I guess I should do an intro page elsewhere, but for now. I have purchased a Dogtra 1900- it is my first E Collar. I have had the dog wearing it all day off and on (4 hours on, 2 hours off etc) for about 2 1/2 days. I have seen conflicting info about how long the dog needs to wear the collar before it can be used to prevent the dog from becoming "collarwise". I put it on and take it off at random times usually with a little treat to try and keep him from having any association with it.
I had planned on having him wear it for around five days before using it- is this adequate?
Thanks for the input guys. In this dog's case it's actually not the end of the world if he has to wear the collar indefinitely b/c he's wiset to it. And it would be great if I could get started sooner rather than later, this dog is an accident waiting to happen!

It's really *REALLY* important to take off the collar during regular intervals. Think of it this way... If you put a bracelet on tightly and remove it after a few hours you'll often times see an imprint of the bracelet on the flesh of your wrist. If you leave a e collar on you will see the same effect, if you continue to leave it on past that you will have the contact points embed.
I would rather have a dog that's collar wise than cause my pet pain.
Melissa- yes I know about the sores that can happen. By "indefinitely" I meant, if he was collar wise and I simply had to have him wear it for every off leash run, that wouldn't be so bad. I only leave it on him for a few hours at a time.
