So I recently moved in with a girl who has a little rat dog. The dog licks constantly, anything and everything on top of eating its crap. The dog is ultra sensative but anytime a correction is given for the behavior, she will go right back to licking. The nerves suck and the dog is just plain annoying. Has anyone every had a problem like the licking and what can be done to help with it? Any and all sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you need a new girlfriend! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Only kidding there Jake. Licking as you describe it is a sign of submission. My parents have a toy poodle that does the same thing. Maybe your corrections are too harsh. She is trying to tell you that she see's that your the boss and is not challenging your authority. Try redirecting her behavior too something positive. Plus just the fact that you don't like the dog isn't helping either. If you take some time to learn about training methods, it might surprise you that you can drastically improve your relationship withthe dog. JMO
Its not that i dont like the dog, she is actually very sweet, but just a pain in the you konw what. I understand training and have trained several dogs but nothing this small. It also doesnt help that my girlfriend wont let me train her and she for some reason wont either. The corrections are all verbal and nothing more than a firm no. Any more than that and she will go in avoidance, shaking, running away, and I ways have her sit, something I trained her to do without the girlfriend knowing, and then praise the crap out of her. I have been around the dog long enough so that we have a bond and the dog actually listens and respects me more now that the girlfriend. Good info on the submission though, i didnt know that.
Ahhh, I get it. You actually have a soft spot in your heart for the little turd, but don't want your girlfriend to know! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Don't worry I won't blow your cover. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
