I have an 8 month old newfoundland dog. What type of collar would you recommend to stop her from pulling while we are walking?
I purchased a prong collar but every time I put it on she walks with her tail down and constantly tries to itch her ears and the collar. I have a dominant dog collar coming soon.

Is the prong collar fitted correctly? Have you done any focus exercises or loose lead training with markers (voice or clicker)? Are you sure the pup understands what's expected?
Julie, you are describing a dog "not used to" the new collar. Also, I agree with Elaine. Have the dog wear the collar while you are using positive methods for teaching, (The Power of Using Food, with Michael Ellis). I understand your dog is big but his mind is still young. The collar can help you stop the dog from pulling you everywhere, but you must use it correctly. I suggest not using compulsion to teach the heeling, but having the collar on the dog, and using food in a luring fashion and marking when the dog is in the correct position.
Happy Training,
Roni
I do use food while we walk. I use "yes" when she is walking nicely beside me and reward with food. My problem is when she decides to pull, she is so strong. She just started this two weeks ago. We were walking home from school and she decided to chase a squirrel. She knocked over my 8 year old who luckily fell on her back pack and pulled me down. The next morning she would pull whenever she felt like it. I would like a collar I can use everyday, but will stop her in an emergency so she does not knock down my girls or me.
I will check into The Power of Using Food. Thank you!!

Julie, the prong collar is what you want. She just needs to get acclimated to wearing it. You can do this by having her wear it in the house for short lengths of time. Once she's used to it, she will stop the scratching.
The dominant dog collar is not appropriate for pulling issues.
