They have tours of the house and do a bang up business in Leg Lamps. The whole movie has a very "Cleveland" feel to it. The house is at 3159 West 11th St. It's in an old, gritty working class neighborhood called Tremont. It's now getting a bit arty and is somewhat of a hotspot in town. Tremont is on the ridge overlooking the steel mills. Many of the mill workers used to live there and in the surrounding area. I've always loved Jean Shepherd's essays -- he had a great talent for words. Car and Driver was a lesser magazine when he moved on. Trivia ... The movie, "A Christmas Story" was financed largely from the producer's profits from his first move, "Porky's". Tremont was also the location where many scenes from "The Deer Hunter" were filmed. My best Xmas moments were taking my 5 year old niece out on the lawn to leave carrots for the reindeer, writing Thank you letters to Santa and Baby Jesus, and my 16 month old niece discovering the joy of ripping wrapping paper to be better than anything inside the box. Something about that full body baby laughter just warms the soul.
