...Maggie is just out from a 6 month quarantine (3 months at a kennel then 3 months at home)! We went on our first walks in the neighborhood this week. She hasn't been out the front door since she was 3 months old. All training has been done in the house or back yard with limited distraction. She is good at what she knows and very tired of fetch (or am I??)
In a nutshell, the world is the biggest distraction EVER. I guess I need to balance exploring with training. In a word, she pulls and is so far into prey drive (sniffing, watching moving things and listening to new sounds-traffic and sirens) that there is no listening to ME.
There is snow on the ground, ice underneath and she weighs about 60 lbs. I am hardly in the position to do anything, but try to slow her down. You have to love her enthusiasm...
We are signed up with a trainer who's philosophy is aligned with Michael Ellis and has even been to a couple of his seminars.
