Ingrid, I spent a while browsing your site last night. They are all beautiful. And I realized just how much we had in common when I read that you hadn't bred a litter yet after all these years. LOL. Gee, I got Capri in April after what....like 8 years wanting to breed GOOD GSDs. It will pay off tenfold, which you know.
I admit I was crestfallen to find Poe had been neutered. Something in his eyes gets to me.
Nice site and nice job on all of them, but especially Poe!I love old dogs.
Thanks Jenni! I wish I had not neutered Poe either but I was new to dogs and did not know what I had. There are plenty in the breed who are sad that I neutered him too, particularly given he is clear of PRA, but those were the days that I fell for the conformation = breed quality line of thought.
I have his nephew who, while not the same as Poe, is a very nice boy and I hope to eventually infuse Poe's line through him in my breeding program when the time is right. He has produced pups that work and has another litter on the way in Sweden that I hope will be nice.
I agree about waiting to breed. I wanted to make sure I would do right by the breed and knew the various lines of dogs before I produced my first litter. Been in the breed for almost 13 years now and am finally taking the plunge to breed my first litter. I am actually going to get the stud next week to bring to my place. Was hoping to do this litter next year when Frost was three but the stud is 11 years old and it is a long shot as it is due to his age.
So Frost gets her hips and elbows done on her birthday this week and hopefully they will come out like her prelims did and I will breed her to this stud in 6-8 weeks. If she does not take I will be bummed that I won't get this cross but won't be too devestated because then I can wait till next year and breed her to a son of this male.
But as we all know how the best laid plans turn out....
