Any tips on attending an event like this. Will my pup get in the way?

Shade is going to be at a premium. You won't be allowed to take your dog inside the venue, usually. And there is a lot of people being very focused at the task at hand, so you can't really view the event as a chance to socialize your puppy. Leave him at home, and just come to watch the competitors.
