I tried thinking it was everything else, but I think it's the chicken backs. When I started feeding them, she started itching more, her skin is dry, her eye looks worse, her coat is coarse and not shiny anymore. Do you think it's the chicken backs? Or am I doing something wrong? Can she be going through more detox? It's been about 3 weeks since I started. Right now Dolly gets 1/2 cup THK (Force) with 1 pump Grizzly Salmon Oil and 100 IU vitamin e in the morning, and 1/2 cup THK with about 1 cup chicken backs in the evening. California coast Offline	Katie, it doesn't make any sense that chicken backs would cause itching if she is fine with Force THK since it's main ingredient is chicken. If you are suspecting allergies to be the cause of her itching, etc., then it's much more likely that it's fleas or environmental. But whether you are feeding her Force or chicken backs, chicken is chicken. You would have to do an elimination diet to rule out food allergies.

Hambone is sensitive to any poultry that has injections...even pure saline about a certain percetage will make him itch, flake, etc. NOW, not saying it is this, but he can eat the Force THK and have no problems. You can try eliminating any 'real' chicken for now, go back to THK solely, and later, if you want, get some chicken that doesn't have injections...hard to find. I personally think, as old as she is, just keep her on Force and let her enjoy! Look! I DO fit in the bag.

I thought the same thing about the chicken, and I get mine from Whole Foods, but who knows. If she does better on Force I'll stick to that. If leaving the backs out corrects the problems, you might start trying different brands of whole chickens and cut them up yourself. In my experience, baking hens and turkeys are almost always injected with flavoring of some sort. All the fryer hens and cornish hens I've gotten were not. Don't know why, but thought I'd share. Your mileage may vary.

I hate to think it but I'm almost sure it's skin cancer. Unless this is normal for aging dogs. I have been checking her and don't notice anything but dryness under her fur on the rest of us. I just flew in from New York today, and we're having ridiculous storms (a tornado, here?!) so I'll get her to the vet as soon as I can. Thanks for the help everyone. E.T.A. I just looked some online. It's an ethnic supermarket that carries kosher meats. Nothing can be added to those meats. If it is the saline or other things they pump meat with these days, that might make a difference.
