Had one of my indoor/outdoor kitties in for a checkup yesterday, and he has a few chiggers in his ears. He's not allergic to them, and doesn't seem very bothered by them, but I'd like to get rid of them (I'm sure my other kitty has them as well).
The vet didn't have any ideas beyond using Advantage as a preventative (like that's gonna happen :grin
I just spent a bunch of time trying to find something online that I could use to eradicate these pests from their ears...no joy so far.
So...anyone have any proven ideas for some kind of natural remedy to get these chigger stinkers out of their ears?

Most ear critters we used to drown with oil. Doesn't particularly matter which kind you use but most of us used mineral or corn. Honestly though, I've never messed with chiggers.

well we used to use oil on the black crud ear mites... not sure what particular "bug" they are but oil was always the remedy. You use a pretty healthy amount and either rub or use a q-tip to stir it around a little. The idea is to drown the little things so you want them coated.
So, the reason the vet was pushing Advantage or some ivermectin product is that some
ear mites leave the ear where the oil is drowning them, retreat to the fur, and in 10 days you have dirty ears again.
If you put 1 drop of the ivermectin product into 2 tablespoons of any oil, and then 1 drop of that mix in the ear, that's the end of the mites forever. They are paralysed by the ivermectin and fall out, it's over, no more digging black cerumen out of a sore kitty ear.
