Many years ago I had a merle Great Dane. He was a very good big sweet dog. We even took him to the local Kennel club for obedience training, which btw he did quite good at. As he got older, he garnered the capability to quietly rip some of the largest, stinkiest dog farts to ever waft across a room and grace a human's nose. Of course, such actions would swiftly be followed with the dog's name being shouted loudly and accusingly by everyone else in that room.
Being a smart dog, he picked up on that fact and soon we had unknowingly trained him to get up and leave the room immediately after he farted. Of course, he often left the room for other reasons, but (because of his mal odorous capabilities) ANYTIME he got up, it would spark fear and loathing.
So what’s the point? I believe that it is a fine example of how we train our animals to do things without even realizing it. In this case, it was pretty easy to put 1 and 1 together to make 2. But most people probably really don't realize how much they actual control or create their dog's own behaviors.
