Cody is on the mend. His liver values were in the 2000's today, which is a great improvement. He has to go back to the doctor in 3 weeks.
The vet thinks it was something he ate, and is concerned because he is raw fed. He thinks he could have gotten solemenila (can't spell) poisoning. Or it could have been something different. Since it happened so quickly and the reaction was so severe, he believes Cody injested something, he doesn't think it was from an insect bite. And if it was a weed, all the dogs in our area would be streaming into the hospital. Whatever it was it affected his liver so greatly that it caused hemmoraging.
I feel raw is one of the best diets. Right now I am waiting for Cody's liver to get back to normal, then we will see what we will do. None of my other dogs were infected and they all eat the same food.
Thanks for all your prayers and concern.
Sharon
Sharon,
This is the best news! I am so happy for you and Cody that he is on the mend!!!!
What a relief it must be. I can only imagine all the love and good care he is getting from you.
Dear Joyce: Cody's liver values are down to 2992 which is still high but has dropped. He still is a pretty sick puppy, prayers appreciated. He is not real thrilled with the boiled chicken. Used to a raw diet. This morning I had to hand feed him and then he only ate a few bites. Of course he gets no exercise. Today, i am going to try and walk him up and down our driveway (not too long maybe 2 car lengths) just to give him some exercise.
I rejoice with you. It is a miracle~ the vet said yesterday that what happened to cody is very rare.
thanks again for your encouragement

This troubles me. Salmonella is diagnose-able, via fecal culture. It doesn't really fall into the category of "might be but we can't test for it so let's blame raw feeding."
JMO.
Regardless, of course, I too would be feeding no foods that could introduce pathogens with this sick dog.
