I am a regular on Estonias most popular dog forum. I have been on a few english-speaking forums other than this and my nerves don´t usually stand it for long. I got bashed for saying that you can be a responsible dog owner if you don´t spay or neuter. On another forum I asked for advice about my dog that was bred 3 weeks ago but ran around endlessly and carelessly as she usually does and I was worried should I do something to restrict her or if anyone had had this kind of experience. I had consulted my dogs breeder (and her co-owner- it was supposed to be a litter under her kennel) and two others (over 30 and 15 years of experience of breeding dobes) and they hadn´t had a dog that acted that way. But despite of that I was told that I was an irresponsible breeder because if I was responsible I wouldn´t have any problems. I still don´t know how this makes any sence but maybe the really responsible breeders don´t have any questions or problems from day one... It turned out later that the breeding just didn´t take.
I love this forum however. I have never seen a forum that has this much sensible people with so much patience and time that they invest in helping newbies (and not so newbies) with problems of any sort. And I have never seen a forum that people can post totally unrelated topics about their life and won´t get a response "what does that have to do with dogs? this is a dog-forum and you can post your baby-stories on a mommy forum (just an example)" but instead everybody is happy/sad with you. Leerburg forum is like a cozy cafe where all your friends like to hang out so no matter if you are feeling up or down, have news, thoughts, thories or questions, there is always someone around to talk to and hardly anyone has to leave dissapointed (and they are mostly just people looking for someone to agree with them, not tell them new stuff that might not be all that comfortable).
I think the worst abuse at a GSD forum I've seen was the moderator stump endlessly for his favorite presidential candidate and I called him on it. He would post all the talking points straight from the party's site. when I challenged him on it he would throw the moderator card, THEN I got insulting.....
I have one site I visit for political discussion. I don't like mixing it with other things.
I'm with you Chris! Dogs deserve better than to keep company with politics discussions...
