Oh poor little darlings - rifles AND knives AND a big bad wolf. What a story! And one of them drove away and was not seen since, probably knew he is in big trouble. I hope very much the investigation succeeds and they get what they deserve.

Ok benefit of the doubt time, yeah, there is so much more to the story. But at least there are potentially wolves in that area due to red wolf release across the border. Personally I'd have trouble field IDing a red wolf vs a really big coyote. While the story is stupid, and potentially someone is spilling lies really the only eye witness had binoculars and a wagging tail never did mean the dog wasn't biting the crap out of someone. We really don't know what this dog has been trained to do via the story.
As far as the guns and knives these kids were 16. I carried a pocket knife when I was 16, I also had an airsoft rifle. It's no more unusual these days than a kid having a BB gun 30 years ago. These things can be amazingly realistic especially if these are manufactured outside of this country. It's sound doesn't carry much in the same way a pump action bb gun doesn't travel.
Either way there are a couple points that bug me. 1) That a police dog was taken out of someone's backyard or escaped instead of being secured somewhere where this can't happen.
2) Can someone please help me out with the idea of civil apprehension training? It seems like an off concept to me.

I think that the boys story sounds a little suspicious... and i have seen kids of that age be very cruel to animals not saying all of them are but it happens. Maybe they tried to kick the dog or shoot it with the airsoft gun and he defending himself. No way to prove it, and the dog should have been more more securely contained. Sad story non the less.
