So my puppy will be coming home this Saturday. He is a 4.5 month old GSD working line. He has had no training what so ever. dosen't even have a name yet.
I was thinking of getting the puppy 8 weeks to 8 months dvd and the basic obedience dvd set. What do you think?

I really loved the two Micheal Ellis DVD's the power of training dogs with food ANd the Power of playing tug with your dog.
The food dvd info would be more immediately relevant and is the first one in the series. There is a lot of good stuff for working with puppies in it. Since your dog will be teething when you get him the tugging will not be a good idea till that's done.
never got that one... though i should have, I'm going to get it with my next order. I had already knew the fundamentals of marker training and had a pretty limited budget.

You're gonna like it a lot. I got a ton out of that one.
Ed being the "dog" who is trained by a human in the chapter on trying to learn without knowing the trainer's "language" (and so become a better trainer) is worth the price.

SO true!
I actually learned a lot from that chapter on the dvd. It really go me to consider how hard it must be for a dog to figure out what you want, and how important patience is when teaching something new.
I really love all my Leerburg dvd's. I was thinking about it today, actually. The best part is that they don't always use finished dogs in the segments. So many training videos only show dogs hat have been trained for a long time, and it can be discouraging to a pet owner.
Watching part of the Basic Obedience today I started to wish that I had found this site earlier. It would have been a lot easier on me and my dog if I had seen those segments with Dayma.
Tasha has the EXACT same temperament and energy level, and the biggest frustration I have faced is not knowing where she should be and what to expect from her.
