Hi All,
Well we are off to a great start..
Got the sit
Working on the down which she has as long as my hand moves don to the ground..I think I am missing the transition from the food reward to just the command..I watched the video over again and Ed talks a lot about the down stay but I need a little more on just the down..Any ideas?
We switched to the healthy kitchen so far so good..I am going to add some chicken wings, necks and such next week..She LOVES it!!
One other question..man she takes forever to go poo! I have to walk around and around in circles until she goes..Is this normal what do you think is a fair time to allow for this? 1/2 hour? I know she has to go but it's like she is holding it so she can smell around more.
We are doing long walks about 4 miles a day and for sure training the sit, say, down daily..I know the come still is in need of work because my husband opened the office door with the cat in his arms..the cat hissed and Lilly took off after him totally ignoring the come...so yeah...working on that...Any tips you all have I would love to hear!
Hey Kristina, I'm not sure exactly whats on the video but even though I've used two different styles with each dog, the key was moving around after I was satisfied with the way they downed with the luring and began giving the command.
Working at a pretty quick pace and moving around with the dog, I'd give the command, hand cue, mark&reward, release. Repeat.
At the third or fourth rep I'd give the command and skip the hand cue. If he did it, mark and reward, release. If he didnt, start again with the hand cues.
They all poop different. My Rott can do it as soon as he hits the pea gravel. My Shepherds need to move around, a lot.

My rotty is a traveling pooer... She had pretty damaged legs when i got her and i thought that may have something to do with it. However if the dog takes 1/2 hour I would think about a vet visit to eliminate the chance that there is something medical going on. Not to frighten you but my moms GSD had similar issues pooing and it was anal gland cancer. There is a really good chance its nothing, but if we had caught it sooner he may have lived.
Steve gave great advice for the down... good luck with that
