OK I need some advise,I want to learn how to train My GS pups in Shultzhund but the problem is the closest club is an hour and half.So yes enventually I'm probably gonna just have to make the trips to train. But forgive me for sounding dumb but I'm in uncharted waters. But what I would like to know after I gain knowledge in the training, how do I form my own Shultzhund Club for my area.Any and all advise will be accepting.
Driving over an hour to a club is, unfortunately, not all that unusual. About half our club members drive at least that far. You will need to learn to make the most of your training time.
With the puppy, you can start building an obedience foundation and start laying the groundwork for working with the helper with tugs and rags. Now is a excellent time to start tracking. Leerburg's has a very nice selection of videos to get you started.
The elementary bitework looks simple but you really need to have some guidance on how to do it properly.
The club forming requirements vary but generally, you will need at least five people to form the club, someone to work as a helper and a place to train. Contact the sanctioning organizations home office or regional director to learn details on forming a new club.
USA has a very active helper training program. Watch the event announcements for on in your area. Even if you don't do any helper work it's good to understand what goes into it.
I would just encourage you to look at the videos that Ed has available on the main site.
I know if you aren't sure which one to start with, they are really helpful if you call the office and ask.
As to starting your own club, I would develop relationships with the existing far away clubs first.
Possibly you will find some people in from your area that are wanting to branch off and looking for you!
I have a standing offer for any decoy/helper that wants to come over to my house for food, beer of their choice and a phone number to a lady of loose moral character.
