The only thing I have to add is that I'd go with linoleum over vinyl. There was an excellent article in the Whole Dog Journal about how vinyl materials outgas harmful chemicals (harmful to both us and the dogs, whose noses are right on it). This goes for everything made out of vinyl...flooring, shower curtains, car seats, etc.
for the money you spend on reworking the floor and walls you could build outside kennels
I can't imagine how. It's a super small room. It looks like it will be a matter of a linoleum remnant, a bathroom fan vented to the outside and maybe some chair rail. If you have a cheap idea for an outdoor kennel, Im happy to listen. All of these dogs have been indoors all their lives (even when she had a kennel it was indoor housing with outside runs) and they are short haired dogs and we live in IL so it's not a matter of a fence, floor and simple dog house.
Leih, until I started checking this out today, I didn' even know there was a difference...I thought it was tomAtoe- tomatoe. Even now that I know there's a difference, I didn't know the info you mentioned. Thank you.

Lowes/Home Depot/ sells prefabs. the best Prefabs I've seen are sold by "Southern States". If she does like I did, my kennels look alot like rooms complete with beds, I use walmart kiddie pools with a blanket and straw in them. They tend to eliminate in the same spot all the time. At night they are brought into the house.
I don't have pics any more, but if I can get to the doghouse in a couple of days I'll try to take some. It's at one of our rental houses where we used to live so I have to make a trip over there.

As an FYI, if I had to choose between the peel-and-stick tiles and a full sheet of vinyl, I would choose the full sheet type.
Even as close as you can get the sticky tiles together, there will still be seems for ick to collect in and when doing a clean up, fluids can still seep, even if just a little.
Have to agree there. Do a full sheet if you're going to do vinyl. My lazy landlord put those stupid Peel & stick vinyl in my bathroom and put them down bad to boot. So when i wash the floor it gets under the tiles and they don't stick very well anymore, plus what Jessica said about the cracks filling up with everything....totally true.
