Sorry if this has been discussed several times, but I scanned the first few pages and did not see anything.
I am hopeing with out getting into too much detail or arguments (psh, like dog handlers ever argue!) if someone could give me a quick and easy brake down with the differences of a Dog Behaviorist vs Dog Trainer. I have been training dogs for almost 5 years but I will freely admit that my training is focused, I have not tried nearly enough to branch out and learn things that did not directly apply to what I do.
So I am trying to pick up the slack and learn more about Dog Behaviorist and what they do. Is it more of a politically correct term to use then Dog Trainer? Or are there some serious differences? I have seen the section Dog Behavior Problems in the forums here.

I'm sure someone here may have a differing opinion on the matter but in my book it works out like this.
A dog trainer builds new behaviors.
A dog behaviorist examines behavior unrelated to training.
A dog trainer who is also a behaviorist can examine an existing behavior and can alter it by either altering the living conditions of the dog and/or through training to produce a desired result.
Just because someone is a dog trainer doesn't make them understand real dog behavior. Just because someone is a competent observational behaviorist doesn't mean they can teach a dog to sit or knows how to produce a proper end result.
