Yesterday, I went to a horse rescue farm with a couple of teenaged clients from work. (I work with delinquent teenagers now). The kids had earned the trip, and they got to meet many new equine friends and one amazing canine friend. The dog's name was Little Man.
My clients enjoyed the trip so much and learned so much from the animals on the farm that I emailed Sandy (the person who runs the farm) today to thank her profusely for letting us give this wonderful opportunity to the kids.
Sandy wrote me back that they had lost Little Man this morning. She didn't have any details when she emailed me, but her loss is truely profound.
Yesterday was the only time I had met this wonderful dog. The effect he had on my clients was amazing. One of the kids is always angry, but one look at Little Man and he actually melted. He sat on the ground and rubbed his belly and smiled the whole time.
I am glad that I am able to say that I got to meet this amazing creature. I am sad for those that will never gaze into his eyes or scratch his belly.
If you could all send out some prayers for Sandy, and all of Little Man's friends, it would mean very much to me. They do such good work for damaged animals and people.. it is not fair that they suffer such a loss.
Thank you, Little Man for giving me and the kids so many smiles yesterday. I only hope that when I get to the other side, I will be able to see you again and give you a belly rub.
Until then, I send you giant hugs.
What a sweet, sweet dog. He was obviously put here to help heal fragile hearts, which he did very well. If a dog you've never met can make you smile from just hearing his story, he is a good ol' dog.
Thanks for your wonderful comments. This dog did a LOT of good in the short time he had at the rescue.
Have you ever had a dog that you don't even know reach out to you? That's what happend... I just felt an instant bond with this dog that I had just met. His passing hit me very hard, and I am still struggling to figure it out.
I have sent Sandy a St. Francis medal for Little Man... I have one for each of my lost girls. I feel that I needed to give him one for some reason. It feels "right", ya know?
Maybe I am just cracking up and living with the Mals has finally driven me to the edge... who knows.
